Attractions in the Smokies

Titanic Pigeon Forge 800-381-7670

Today the great Titanic lives on at the permanent Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where a towering symbol of hope and courage has been recreated in all of its glorious splendor. Here guests will relive and celebrate the lives of the 2,208 passengers and crew aboard the ship. The concept of this permanent museum is a celebration of the ship and her passengers and crew and to pay respect to those who gave their lives by simply telling their stories. Each guest entering the ship will receive a boarding pass of an actual Titanic passenger or crew. Feel their spirit presence in the galleries where over 300 personal and private artifacts are on display. Many are on display for the first time in the world. This collection is valued at over four and a half million dollars. This is a two hour self-guided tour.

Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Fued 865-908-7469

Come 2011, there will be a new show on the entertainment scene in Pigeon Forge. The Hatfield-McCoy Dinner Feud and Stunt Show will open next spring in the Black Bear Jamboree Theater on the Parkway. Smoky Mountain entertainment moguls David Fee and Jim Hedrick are producing the new show, which will be based on the true story of the famous Hatfield and McCoy feud.

The show will divide audiences into Hatfield and McCoy sections, as the audience participates in the rivalry. Amazing physical and comical stunts will be performed throughout the show, which will also feature dancers, singers, actors, musicians and specially trained stunt people.

Ultimately, the Hatfield-McCoy Dinner Feud will replace the Black Bear Jamboree. The current theater will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation and be turned into two neighboring hillbilly-style mountain homes, complete with decorative moonshine still and barnyard animal areas. The moonshine still is supposedly going to be the largest in the world, and will be verified by the Guinness Book of World Records once completed. The lobby area will also be an interactive learning center where the history of the local Appalachian culture will be highlighted.

The dinner menu is remaining the same, with popular southern-style chicken and hickory smoked ribs served with all the trimmings.

Bass Pro Shop 865-932-5600

In 1971 young Johnny Morris, frustrated by the lack of tackle in local stores, rented a U-Haul trailer and took off across the country filling it with the newest premium fishing tackle he could find.

When he returned home to Springfield, Missouri, Johnny started in the fishing business with eight feet of space in his dad’s liquor store which became a popular stopping-off place for local and out-of-state fishermen on the way to the Ozark’s famous bass lakes.

A number of these anglers started calling when they got back home wanting Johnny to send them some of his specialized Bass Pro Shops tackle. In 1974, in response to this demand, he printed and mailed his first Bass Pro Shops catalog. Today, outdoor enthusiasts around the world look forward to opening the mail and getting their favorite Bass Pro Shops catalog, while many enjoy visiting and shopping basspro.com.

In 1978, Johnny introduced the first professionally rigged boat, motor and trailer fish-ready package. The Bass Tracker boat “package” revolutionized the marine industry. Huge boat showrooms are featured in every Bass Pro Shops store.

Bass Pro Shops today isn’t just fishing. It is an outdoor retail leader in hunting, camping, nature gifts, outdoor cooking, and much more.

From that simple beginning, Bass Pro Shops has become one of America’s premier outdoor retailers with destination outdoor retail stores across America and Canada, serving over 75 million sportsmen a year.
